Massachusetts State Parks offer a wonderful variety of activities, amenities, and natural features that make each park unique. They include beaches, wooded parks, parkways, reservoirs, and more. Each park also offers special events, nature activities, and educational programs for people of all ages and abilities all year long. C. M. Gardner State Park offers the following recreational opportunities: canoeing, fishing, hunting, picnicking, grilling, and walking trails.

The C.O.P.E. (Co-operative Parenting Education) Program is designed to help pregnant and parenting teens in the Somerville School system maintain their academic focus for high school graduation while learning parenting skills. Students work closely with their C.O.P.E. counselor who helps them access community support services such as daycare, midwives and doulas, academic tutoring, mental health services, and home visiting programs. Active participation and attendance in this program gives the opportunity for academic credit via monthly workshops and reports.

The Community Learning Center helps adults improve their lives and increase their community participation through free educational programs and services. These services include: English language classes, classes in basic reading, writing, and math, preparation for High School Equivalency examinations, preparation for college or a training program, preparation for the U.S. citizenship test. The Community Learning Center also offers free educational and career counseling, tutoring, and basic computer instruction.

Services are free and confidential and last on average of 9 months and are currently offered in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.

Services areas can include:

  • Parenting skills
  • Opportunities to meet other young parents
  • Housing assistance
  • Domestic violence resources
  • Access to food, clothing, school supplies, furniture and other basic needs
  • Support in accessing government support (WIC, DTA, Day Care vouchers etc.)
  • GED/High School/College
  • Vocational skills
  • Independent Living Skills
