Description: The Boston Parks and Recreation Department has announced that its popular summer series of ParkARTS Watercolor Painting Workshops will return during the month of June at five Boston locations.
The series of five workshops for budding artists ages nine and up is just one of the many offerings of the annual ParkARTS program sponsored by Holly and David Bruce. These hands-on watercolor painting workshops enable participants to create their own greenspace-inspired masterpieces.
Local art instructors welcome artists of all skill levels to join them and capture Boston’s historic parks in bloom. The free workshops include instruction and materials provided. All classes are weather permitting.

Event:Gone Fishin’ on Ipswich River

Description: Come and join this family fishing experience! Go to the Accessible Trail parking lot at 40 Asbury Street (left turn just inside the park gates past the old gray farmhouse) for a FREE drop-in program for ages 6+. Follow the trail fishing signs for a short walk to the fishing spot. Learn how to fish, what fish live in the Ipswich River, and how to catch and release responsibly. No experience or license required.
- Rods and bait will be provided.
- You may bring your own gear and share your skills!
- Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Wear sturdy closed toe shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen

Event: Saugus Iron Works Tour

Location: Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site
Description: U. S. National Park Rangers host free tours at the Saugus Iron Works. Learn about the production of iron on this site in the mid-1600s, an endeavor that was integral to the growth of the early colony. Hear about the archeological dig and reconstruction of the site in the 1940s to 1950s. Upon availability, this tour may include the operation of waterwheels, the 500-pound hammer, the rolling mill, and blacksmithing demonstrations. Tour lasts about one hour and is outdoors.
Or you could step into a 17th century home. Enjoy a tour through the 1680s Iron Works House and learn about life during the colonial period, the restoration of the house by Wallace Nutting in 1915, and the impact of the house on the reconstruction of the site.
