Your Growing Child: Preschoolers 3-4 years

Source: one tough job

Although your child can express himself and his needs more clearly than when he was younger, tantrums are still normal at this age.

As your child grows into a preschooler her world will begin to open up. She will want to explore her surroundings and will have lots of questions to ask. She will begin to develop friendships and pay extra attention to adults and children outside of the family. During this period your child will start to develop personal interests. Foster this exploration by providing a variety of activities for your preschooler to enjoy.

Although your child can express himself and his needs more clearly than when he was younger, tantrums are still normal at this age. As he becomes increasingly more independent he will want to be in charge of more and more of his daily tasks. Avoid power struggles by offering your child choices that meet your approval. For example, allow your child to pick from two to three outfits that you have laid aside for him. The choice will give him the sense of independence that he needs at this age and picking out the outfits will help you put a limit on the seemingly infinite amount of choices and time it takes to decide.
